Progress over Perfection

FIT DAD LIFE

Fitness, Family, and Beyond

Whether you're just getting started working out or you're coming back from a long break, figuring out what the heck you're supposed to do can get confusing.

Can I work out at home?
Do I have to go to the gym?
How long should I workout?
What exercises should I do?
How many reps is the right amount?

Here's a hot take:

A "bad" program done consistently will outperform a perfect program done once.

Consistency is the only hack that actually works.

Here's my workout trend for the last 8 weeks:

You might notice that the goal line is 4 workouts a week and I never hit it during the last 8 weeks.

A perfectionist would give up after the first week and think something like "Well, since I can't hit 4 workouts a week, just forget it."

That means after 8 weeks, the perfectionist would have only worked out 3 times from week 1. Meanwhile, here I am doing my best, but accepting reality and I've hit the gym 24 times in the same period.

Who is gonna get stronger?
Who is gonna burn more fat?
Who is gonna get more results?
Who is gonna make progress on their goals?

Me. That's right. Not the perfectionist.

Fitness is the pursuit of progress, not perfection.

What you don't see above are my nutrition and body fat stats. Frankly, those have been all over the place, and they're something I'm focusing on this year.

I've made progress with strength and mobility over the last year because I've been consistent. I have not achieved the same results with body fat percentage because my diet lacked consistency.

But I've learned to enjoy the journey and not go crazy with extreme diets or restrictions. Every time I've tried drastic measures, I've binged my way back even faster.

Consistency counts.

What in your life or work are you most consistent about?

Move your body.
Clear your mind.
Repeat.

Keep up the good work!
